I’ve never really liked analysis that equate dating and relationships with market economics–to me, love is far too mysterious and weird to examine the way we would home sales or oil prices. However, I LOVE the way economist Marina Adshade turns the conventional wisdom on its head.
Marina Ashade on why older women have the upper hand in the dating market
If men believe that they have the “market” advantage based on numbers, they are also at a decided disadvantage as they need us more than we need them. In general, of course. There are always exceptions. Numerous studies have shown that married men are the healthiest and happiest. I have also seen how many males fail to thrive after their wives die.
The other point I want to make is that many of us are willing to “exit the market” , as Dr. Adshade states, rather than settle for poor quality men and relationships. So, if I were a man, I would certainly not be smug on the mere basis of statistics.
